Improvements to Feature Announcements
Going forward, we’re aiming to publish additional blog posts that dive deep into new game features as soon as they go live. This is part of our ongoing pledge to enhance the overall flow of information.
We're always striving to communicate ongoing changes in Angry Birds 2 more effectively. For that reason, we’ve decided to revamp our update news approach—giving you more detailed information, sooner. Here’s what that change will look like and why we believe it will improve everyone’s experience.
Why Patch Notes Are Changing
By now, many of you are accustomed to seeing patch notes on the day our major updates begin rolling out. This has been our standard way of sharing news promptly, but these notes haven’t always included every new feature or improvement.
The reason lies in something called feature flags. In a live-service title like Angry Birds 2, features included in a new build are often initially flagged ‘off’ and only announced or released at a later date. When flagged ‘off’, a feature isn’t added to the game until we manually turn it on. Sometimes this is done to let a new update fully roll out while we monitor the game's stability and performance. A feature might also stay flagged ‘off’ if it’s intended to debut as part of our event schedule (such as Shade’s launch or the recent Subway Surfers collaboration).
This process often means we can't announce new improvements or features in the patch notes themselves, since they aren't going live immediately. At times, this results in patch notes that look a bit light for major updates—and we think we can do better.
So, What Are We Improving?
In addition to our regular Flock Forward posts, we’ll be publishing special announcements the moment features and improvements are flagged ‘on’. This will allow us to go much deeper into new features and how they work, so you get the information that matters to you as soon as we can share it.
If critical improvements or bug fixes are included and activated immediately in a patch, we’ll announce those with the patch itself as usual. The main difference going forward is that new features will receive their own dedicated blog post at a more appropriate time—and with much richer detail. So keep your eyes peeled for more blog posts in the near future!
