If you've played Street Fighter 2, you'll be right at home with Science Kombat's 2D fighting mechanics; however, where it falls short of Capcom's classic in terms of competitive gameplay is in its excellent pixel art, great sense of humor, and a varied cast of scientists equipped with unique special moves.
Several different scientists to pick from
You can pick from Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, Steven Hawking, Pythagoras, Tesla, Alan Turing, and Isaac Newton, for a total of eight people. Each character has a unique set of abilities based on their scientific specialty, often to comedic effect. For example, Nikola Tesla can shoot out bolts of electricity, Marie Curie can shoot radiation from her hands, and Isaac Newton can drop apples on people's heads.
Quick matches may be played against any other scientist, or you can enter the tournament and face off against everyone else in the field, culminating in a battle with GOD (and not just any god, but all of them)! It appears that the gloves are suddenly off in the long-running debate between scientists and religious believers.
Science Kombat APK For Android is a wonderful little fighter with great pixel art and a fantastic idea, but we wish the fighting mechanics were a little more polished. We approve of any game in which a wheelchair-bound Steven Hawking slaps Albert Einstein in the face.
Put a dent in that theory of yours
You can punch your way through an ape and a caveman with Darwin, teleport across the stage with Hawking, use Newton's apple to smack your foes over the head, and blast electricity from Tesla's hands. Only the Tournament and Single Fight game types are available. In Tournament Mode, you pick a scientist to compete against another scientist who is controlled by computer AI. After you've finished out all the scientists, God will show up in all his incarnations for a last showdown.
The difference between Tournament Mode and Single Fight is that in the latter, you get to pick your opponent. Unlike other fighting games, losing a single life means you lose the match and have to start again. Despite the impressive visuals of the many special moves, there are unfortunately just a limited number of combinations available. The inclusion of local co-op play would have made this an even greater toy to mess about with a friend.
A fight for the ages
Overall, Science Kombat Latest Version is a funny fighting game aimed more towards a niche audience than the mainstream. Despite the lack of physical conflict, it's nice that the characters' designs kept faithful to the real individuals. If you're curious about who would win in a fight between Einstein and Hawking, this game is a good bet.
