Bookworm Adventures is a spelling-based adventure game for people of all kinds. In this game, you play the part of Lex, a humble bookworm who goes on a journey through the books in his library. As Lex goes on his adventure, he will meet and fight a wide range of enemies, such as mythological animals and characters from old books.
In Bookworm Adventures, the way you fight is based on spelling, which is one of the greatest ways to fight. At the start of each fight, a grid of letter tiles is set up. Lex uses the available tiles to make out words. The longer the word, the more damage it does. The enemies don't care about such niceties; they just attack Lex and hurt him. Some even destroy tiles, poison them so they hurt Lex, or "lock" them so they can't be used.
Tiles and things that aren't like the others add to the problems. Special tiles have powers that do extra things, like make enemy attacks less damaging, heal Lex, or do damage automatically every turn. You can get these gem tiles by making words that are especially good. Lex can also get special effects from the items he finds on his quest. These items can heal Lex, lessen the damage he takes, or do something else. For example, the strong Hand of Hercules does more damage when Lex spells the name of a metal, like "TIN" or "BRONZE." Potions are one-time use things that can heal Lex, make his attacks stronger, or get rid of conditions that hurt him.
During the game, there are also minigames that test your memory, language, and general knowledge. If you do well at these, you will get extra gems and drinks that will help you on your quest. As you fight your way through the world of books, you'll also unlock new minigames that you can play whenever you have a few minutes to spare.
