Introduction
Ranger Rumble is a third-person arena shooter featuring new Ratchet & Clank characters and unique weapons. Matches are fast-paced and played in real-time, either solo or in teams. The game offers explosive weapons, intense action, and the series' signature fun.
Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble is the latest installment in the series and a third-person multiplayer arena shooter. It is the first new game since Rift Apart (2021). This game is based on Captain Qwark's "totally safe" combat simulation.
Heroes and Weapons
Ratchet & Clank's Dimensions includes 10 heroes of different species and rarity levels (common, rare, epic), which affect attributes like strength, health, and speed. Heroes are unlocked sequentially, and all can be tried for free.
Weapons also have rarity levels and stats (damage, rate of fire, range, and power). Ammunition reloads automatically. Players can carry up to three weapons; additional slots are unlocked as the game progresses. Starting at level 5, weapons can be upgraded with enhancements (mods) like cluster bombs or light frames using cores.
Game Modes
The game has three main modes, which are unlocked sequentially in Adventure Mode. Empty player slots are automatically filled with bots that are weaker than human players. Each match takes place in a randomly selected biome, which is also unlocked in Adventure Mode.
Bolt Rush
Players: 6 | Type: Free-for-All
In Bolt Rush, the goal is to collect bolts. The match goes through several stages:
- Destroy bolt crates.
- Defeat weak opponents.
- Kill powerful minibosses.
- Defeat the central boss.
- Collect visible gold bolts.
Players can steal bolts from opponents, especially when they are distracted. The first player to collect 200 bolts becomes the "King" and must survive for 30 seconds to win. The Crown increases size, health, and weapon damage by approximately 50%, but reduces movement speed and makes the King visible to everyone. The speed reduction does not affect jump pads, sprints, or rail grinding.
Total Rumble
Players: 8 | Type: Free-for-All Deathmatch
In Total Rumble, the objective is simple: the first player to get 8 kills wins. This mode features shield and damage power-ups that are extremely powerful and can allow a player to dominate when used strategically.
Blast Ball
Players: 3 vs. 3 | Type: Team-Based Goal-Based
Blast Ball is similar to Rocket League. Teams attempt to score three goals with a single ball. Players must touch the ball with their foreheads to propel it into the goal.
- Weapons have little effect on the ball, except high-energy, rapid-fire weapons like the R.Y.N.O. or Negatron Collider Ultimate.
- The sprint button becomes a slide button, allowing players to kick the ball.
- The melee button becomes a chargeable forward attack while holding the ball, propelling it forward at a faster rate.
- Speed-boosting power-ups enhance gameplay.
Controls and Movement
The game's controls are excellent. Double-tapping or holding the jump button with the Heli-Pack automatically targets nearby enemies. Sprinting moves in the current direction and has a short cooldown.
Weapons can be used in automatic, double-tap, or dedicated button modes. There's also a dedicated button for charging during battle. Some weapons, such as the Headhunter, also have additional features like zoom.
Ratchet & Clank's classic platforming elements - jump platforms, boost ramps, wall jumps, and grind rails—are also included. The camera uses a "lock strafe" mode for easier aiming and maneuvering.
Progression and Game Economy
The game's progression is primarily controlled by Adventure Mode, a single-player campaign with 30 chapters, some of which advance the story. Each chapter has specific challenges, such as leveling up heroes or weapons, collecting items, or completing in-game objectives. Completing chapters and challenges earn players various currencies.
Social Features
The game features a friend system that allows players to connect using their in-game ID or QR code. While players can join other players' matches, formal teams are not supported. Team invites are only valid for 20 seconds, so recipients must be in the main menu to accept them.
Graphics
The game features colorful, cartoon-style 3D graphics that are clearly different from the console versions. Characters and environments are vividly animated, and the user interface is optimized for touchscreen controls. Matches take place in locations inspired by the game series and feature dynamic effects as well as upgradeable weapons or power-ups.
